Lemon Bottlebrush Callistemon pallidus

Bring a softer shade to your summer garden with Lemon Bottlebrush (Callistemon pallidus). This evergreen Australian shrub produces distinctive, pale lemon-yellow bottlebrush flowers, set against narrow, grey-green foliage. Its unusual blooms add texture and interest to sunny borders and sheltered patios.

The plant provided is about 15 inches tall.

Grown from seed at our Norwich nursery, it makes a lovely choice for gardeners looking for something a little different from the familiar red bottlebrush.

Growing and care

• Position: Choose a sunny, sheltered spot, protected from cold, drying winds.
• Soil: Plant in well-drained soil, or use a container with good drainage.
• Watering: Water regularly while establishing and during dry spells, especially when grown in a pot. Avoid leaving the roots waterlogged.
• Winter care: Protect young plants from frost. In colder or exposed gardens, grow in a container that can be moved to a bright, frost-free position over winter.
• Pruning: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat shape.

A distinctive evergreen for a warm, sheltered corner, with soft-coloured flowers and year-round foliage.
